In this time of “green” attitudes and lifestyles becoming the norm, we here at Safe Water Bottles want to do our part to educate our readers about the differences in the variety of reusable bottles available. In the past, in an effort to reduce the amount of waste produced, many people just started reusing the plastic beverage bottles that you can find in your grocery / convenience store. Then researchers found that reuse of these bottles caused the leaching of DEHP (Bis(2=ethylexyl)phthalate, a chemical that has been linked to a variety of health problems.

So, then came the reusable plastic water bottles. They popped up everywhere: the office, the gym, even just being carried casually while running errands. Waste was reduced, and people were obviously remaining conscious of the importance of staying hydrated. Mission accomplished, right?

Not so!

Studies proved that these reusable plastic bottles, actually made out of polycarbonate, still posed a threat to the user’s health. Polycarbonates leach Bisphenol A, (BPA), which has been suspected of being harmful to humans for over 90 years. BPA can mimic the body’s own hormones, causing some cancers.

So what do you do? You get a metal water bottle that’s been proven safe for your whole family to drink from! Metal water bottles, such as aluminum water bottles and stainless steel water bottles offer the eco-friendly consumer a safe water bottle that is reusable and recyclable, and has no adverse impact on the body.

While there have been many concerns about the safety of aluminum, a good aluminum water bottle (make sure it is of good quality) will be coated with a safe, water based lining. This lining does not contain any traces of BPA, and also will not allow any leaching of the aluminum into the beverage it holds. And if at any time, if the lining becomes damaged, and needs to be disposed of, the bottle is completely recyclable. It is lightweight, and available from many manufacturers. You can find one in any size, color or pattern you can imagine!

Stainless steel water bottles offer an even more long lasting, safe alternative to plastic and polycarbonate bottles, because they have no need for a liner! Stainless steel does not leach, and is also extremely hard to crack or break. It also can be recycled!
